Unless otherwise specified in the standard, panel zones for prequalified connections follow the requirements of the AISCE Seismic Provisions (Section E2.6e for IMF and Section E3.6e for SMF). This includes determination of the required shear strength of the panel zone, panel-zone thickness limitations, and doubler-plate detailing requirements. Following these requirements may result in limited yielding of the panel zone, but the primary mechanism for developing inelastic deformation will be flexural yielding of the beam (for most prequalified connections) or yielding of connection elements (for the Simpson Strong Frame and the DuraFuse Frames connections).
