In a cast bolted bracket (CBB) moment connection, a cast high-strength steel bracket is fastened to each beam flange and bolted to the column flange as shown in Figure 9.1. The bracket attachment to the beam flange is permitted to be either welded [Figure 9.1(a)] or bolted [Figure 9.1(b)]. When welded to the beam flange, the five W-series bracket configurations permitted are shown in Figure 9.2. When bolted to the beam flange, the two B-series bracket configurations permitted are shown in Figure 9.3. The bracket configuration is proportioned to develop the probable maximum moment of the connected beam. Yielding and plastic hinge formation are intended to occur primarily in the beam at the end of the bracket away from the column face.

Figure description:
Key Information: Cast Bolted Bracket (CBB Connection
- Entities: Structural steel column, horizontal steel beam, cast steel brackets, and bolts.
- Connection Types:
- (a W-series connection: The bracket is welded to the beam flange and bolted to the column flange.
- (b B-series connection: The bracket is bolted to both the beam flange and the column flange.
- Shear Connection: Both configurations utilize a bolted shear tab (fin plate connecting the beam web to the column flange.
- Function: Moment-resisting connection designed to force plastic hinge formation in the beam away from the column face.
