6.2Design Strength Due to Yielding of Gross Section

The design strength of members under axial tension, $T_{\mathrm{dg}}$, as governed by yielding of gross section, is given by

$T_{\mathrm{dg}}=A_{\mathrm{g}} f_{y} / \gamma_{\mathrm{m} 0}$

where

• $f_{y} \quad=$ yield stress of the material
• $A_{\mathrm{g}}=$ gross area of cross-section, and
• $\gamma_{\mathrm{m} 0}=$ partial safety factor for failure in tension by yielding (see Table 5).
