For the purpose of design calculations the following units are recommended:
- a) Forces and loads, in kN, kN/m, kN/m²
- b) Unit mass, in kg/m³
- c) Unit weight, in kN/m³
- d) Stresses and strengths, in N/mm² (MN/m² or MPa); and
- e) Moments (bending, etc), in kNm.
For conversion of one system of units to another system, IS 786 (Supplement) may be referred.
